Flare Ember in Space Book Two eBook Rebecca Rode

Flare Ember in Space Book Two eBook Rebecca Rode
Loved, loved, loved this book!!! I have eagerly anticipated the release of Flare since I finished reading Flicker. Totally and completely worth the wait! While Ember deals with her new position in the Union, the death of her father & the lose of Stefan she must train a fighting force of Union flickers. Meanwhile we see Stefan try and overcome his position and reunite with Ember all while under the watchful eyes of the Emperor’s guards. There were ups and downs, twists and turns and bottom line an absolutely great story to read. And omg what a twist at the end!!! Get your copy now!I received an ARC from the author. I voluntarily review this book, this is my honest review.

Flare Ember in Space Book Two eBook Rebecca Rode Reviews
Not usually a fan of dystopian-ish stories but this one is good, keeping me interested, will definitely get the next one in the series
Flicker introduced Ember, a young Roma girl with mental powers. It was interesting enough that I bought Flare. This book is terrible. Ember is immature and self absorbed. I kept hoping she would grow but that didn’t happen before I quit reading, about halfway through. Most of the book is Ember’s thoughts and they are not interesting enough to carry the book.
The final straw was repeated use of the word galaxy, when the author probably meant solar system. I find it extremely unlikely that a human empire would span galaxies! With no other aliens? Seriously? But this passage made me close the book for good “She reached out with her inner light again and immediately sensed those on the ship. She pushed on, stretching, searching for any other lights. She found it on the fringes of the galaxy. It was moving in their direction but not at an alarming pace.”
This book is not science fiction. None of the technology is explained. Faster than light travel just happens. Across galaxies yet. If you are a science fiction reader, skip this series.
I read the first book and liked it enough I bought the second one, I won't bother with the third. In order to make a very weak plot work the author has the main character (Ember) flip flopping between being near God like to a moron incapable of tying her own shoe laces. I barely managed to finish the book and now wish I hadn't.
I have fully enjoyed the first 2 books in this series. The main characters are well written and have some depth to them. My only concerns are that the book might be more appropriately considered YA. The cosmology of space travel are almost rudely ignored and while it is really a minor point it nags at me and is slightly off putting.
However, as I said, I am now following this author and will look at what she has already written and am looking forward to see what comes next.
I like a book that progresses because the main character discovers something, finds some fact, or a truth is discovered. I don' like books in which you have to wait until some new undiscovered trait develops itself. This is what I call a stumble along book and that is just what this series is; stumble along and see what transpires books. I do like the way the author writes, it keeps the suspense building.
I'm not a teenager I'm 59 years old. I purchased a collection of short stories book, were I found and read the first story in the seiries. I loved it so much I had to read the second one. Both are fantastic reads and I also noticed the amazing morals this work is trying to teach. It's a fantastic story and I think anyone who reads it will enjoy. Thank you Rebecca Rode, your an amazing artist. I look forward to the next book.
I really enjoyed the first book in this series, Flicker. This one continued the story of the mentally powerful girl who was caught in a battle between the empire and a group of rebels. It did a good job of reaching a satisfactory conclusion to the episode while leaving a clear path to continue with a third book to finish the full story. While I liked the book, I was disappointed in that for me it slipped in comparison to the initial story. Primarily the heroine, Ember, was less likeable because of her continual confusion about who she was, what she should do and who to support. While some of this was necessary for the story, it did detract from my enjoyment. Also, there were very few Roma elements that had enhanced the first book.
I voluntarily read an ARC copy of this story and am hopeful that in the final story Ember will sort out her issues and bring this series to an enjoyable conclusion.
