The only complaint I'd have about these stories is that I was left wanting to know more. Some of them ended in cliffhangers, and I was disappointed. But they're well written and enjoyable.

... about Thailand, the Thai People and their often very different relationships with the rest of the world. And what a caleidoscope, what a large range of different Thai characters I was so pleased to find in this book!
Once in a blue moon - searching for some ebook to take with me on a voyage to my beloved Southeast Asia - I stumble over some rare gem, something totally new in its genre, and this time it was an author I never have heard or read before. So, curious and nosy as I am, I began to 'dive' into this collection - and finished it in one evening, very but very very gratified!
So I wrote at the beginning of my review for Mist on the Jungle, the second of the short stories written by William Peskett.

And I only can repeat myself, because the stories in this first collection Mango and Sticky Rice are entertaining, gripping, amusing, hilarious, but also sad, these tales are bound to leave an imprint...
The author William Peskett has a quick eye to evaluate situations, persons and is always able to find something extraordinary in the normal looking thing...

Hire a photographer to witness a murder - and it will come out very differently...
A high-profile colour consultant and willing sperm-donor lacks at the end something very essential...
A "Private Eye" has a very busy but worthwhile time to "Meet Mr Chin"...
In "Viceversa" You will get a totally new perspective of the Thai nightclub-scene ...
Then a Canadian in Pattaya will pretend he's from Latvia and he's doing good...

But then there are stories like TBV, which is really an almost brutal dystopia, a woman who's sure her children's will be the last human generation...
The "Boxing Days"-story was a bit hard to follow for me - a family meeting every Boxing Day from 1975 until 2010, every 5 years, until at the end we will know why this took so long and broad to tell the tale. And then - at the end - I liked it!

But the most touching stories - full of life, and death too, are "Mango and Sticky Rice" and "Going Home".
And the reader will learn that between the living and the dead there is only a thin layer of separation. And maybe the one or the other may reconsider some decisions to make or learn to take every day seriously like the first one of the rest of his or her life...

To recapitulate - or make a short story long - this first collection is worth reading like the second one, above mentioned Mist on the Jungle.
For now, Mr William Peskett - You are at the top of my Southeast Asian short story writer discoveries of the year!
